J. ERIC SANDOVAL: Head Hancho/Hotdog

J. Eric Sandoval grew up in Sterling, Illinois playing the violin, piano, and guitar; has been known to play a little mandolin and bass, and most recently has taken up a fond affection for the ukulele. If it’s got strings, Eric can have it figured out in no time. At 17 right out of high-school, he enlisted in the US Navy and served aboard the USS Dahlgren DDG-43 from 1990 – 1992 stationed out of Norfolk, VA. In the subsequent years he studied music and then left college to make his way to Los Angeles in 1996 to play music, living a colorful life best left to fiction until he met Akane Aikawa in 2003. The two married soon afterwards and together they started Hotdog n’ Bun as a t-shirt company placing t-shirts in various local Los Angeles clothing boutiques. Later he facilitated a position for Hotdog n’ Bun as an outsource vendor for Paramount Studios’ Digital Interactive Media department, working on various film, television, and video-gaming projects in numerous capacities.  Beyond his passions for film, television, and music, Eric is also a licensed real estate salesperson working with Pacific Home Brokers, specializing in multifamily residential income property sales and acquisitions in West Los Angeles, California. CA BRE: 01991251  His other personal interests include geopolitics, social issues, and history.

AKANE SANDOVAL: The Big Cheese/Bun

Akane Sandoval came to the United States from Japan intent on learning how to make movies. She went to college and studied film and radio production, but she switched majors when she got into UC Santa Barbara and got her Bachelor’s Degree in Art Studio. She and Eric met just before Akane graduated from UCSB and they were married just six months after meeting. Originally, Akane’s painting style consisted of numerous paintings of beautiful women, yet she would always doodle and sketch little bears that were like people, making a bear world of its own. With geopolitics and general society being a consistent topic of discussion around the home, one day Akane did an elaborate sketch of bears in a totalitarian society ruled by fascist pig police. Eric said to her, “I think you’re onto something there.” Akane immediately went on a painting frenzy of The Bear Republic series that evolved into a complete line of t-shirts, unique teddy-bears, pocket bears, and tote-bags to brand the Bear Republic Network. Together, Akane and Eric came up with an idea for a show designed for the small screen… The Smallest screen, where Bear Republic Network was born.
